HEADCORN

Sun 11th June

Michael Keeler's ride to Headcorn Aerodrome, Kent

15 HOWLERS ON 13 BIKES.....ON A SCORCHING DAY!

It was a change of meeting venue today, for some it would have been their first visit to Earlswood Common Lakes. But everyone arrived in time for a prompt departure at 10:30.

Michael's route took us through the High Weald ANOB. The road east of Lingfield was a belter for a motorbike. At Marsh Green we headed south and later took the A264 towards Royal Tunbridge Wells.

On arrival at Headcorn we were shown where to park and we headed to one of two cafes. Some preferring to eat indoors out of the sun, whilst others were "lapping up the rays".

Headcorn was awesome. A grass runway with lots of activity going on. Light aircraft were constantly taking to the skies and people clearly jump out of them at an alarming rate. Fortunately they all appeared to have parachutes. Elsewhere young ladies were climbing onto a plane that resembled a Sopwith Camel, only to be strapped into a chair on the wing. If that wasn't scary enough they then took to the sky. All for charity apparently. Steve Hill was asked if he'd have a go....he's still thinking it over.

On what was another scorchingly hot day.....Fifteen of us made the journey on an eclectic mix of 13 bikes. Including two beautiful classics, Charles Deakin rode on his 400 Superdream, whilst Simon and Karen Butler rode their VF750. Brian Shailer was on his gorgeous Vespa.

It was wonderful to welcome two first timers. Cindy Pang joined Gary Clarke on his Forza 750 and Jeff Dorber who recently joined the HOC rode from is home in Camberley.

We all left and went our separate ways......most of us ran into a thunderstorm on the way home...the lucky few escaped it. I was asked when I returned home if I took my wet gear? I didn't, but I returned home with my gear wet.

On what was a scorching day, we hit thunderstorms on the way home.

So bad, three of us found a bus shelter just outside East Grinstead
