MCN love the new Hornet but claim there is more to come from Honda and Yamaha better beware.
One of the most exciting outcomes of this launch of the Hornet MCN claim, is it's likely to be just the beginning of a whole new twin-cylinder family.
Where the Yamaha MT-07 Roadster, as originally launched in 2014, proved such a success, it soon spawned the sports tourer Tracer 700 (in 2016) then the adventure Ténéré 700 (in 2019). All three models based around the same engine; similar plans are already afoot at Honda.
The first Hornet spin-off is imminent - the XL750V Transalp. On the basis of the new Hornet, the Transalp promises to be better still with the same impressive parallel twin engine yet true adventure style comfort and versatility, with some genuine off-road ability. The Ténéré 700 looks set to have a serious rival at last.
MCN do not expect things to end there. Honda have recently revealed that they are also more than willing to make a parallel twin sports tourer in the same mould is the Africa twin derived NT1100 launched last year.
That bike has proved such a sales success that a 750 based on the Hornet & Transalp is likely to be on the cards too.
After all it wasn't that long ago that Honda produced an NT650 which later morphed into the NT700. This time around it's probably not going to be called the Deauville ;-).
